First Day of Diwali

SHUBH DHANTERAS

Dhanteras Puja

Dhanteras opens the five-day festival of Diwali. The name joins dhan (wealth) and teras (the thirteenth day), and it is observed on the Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha. On this day, families worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kuber and Lord Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods and the giver of good health.

The puja is done in the evening, in the Pradosh Kaal, and is paired with the lovely custom of buying gold, silver or new utensils and lighting a diya for Yamraj to seek protection and long life. A pandit-led Dhanteras Puja brings the right vidhi and muhurat to your home, shop or office.
